Frequently asked questions

What happens when I hit a limit?
We'll let you know before you hit it. You can upgrade instantly, no data migration, no downtime. If you're briefly over a soft limit (like API requests), we won't cut you off mid-request.
Can I upgrade or downgrade mid-month?
Yes. Upgrades take effect immediately and are prorated. Downgrades take effect at the next billing cycle.
Do SSE connections count per environment or globally?
Globally across your organization. Each SDK instance that connects to Flipswitch counts as one connection. A service with 3 pods in staging and 10 in production uses 13 connections.
What counts as an API request?
Flag evaluation API calls, admin API calls, and SDK polling requests. SSE connections are counted separately (see tier limits). Requests to the dashboard UI don't count.
Is there a self-hosted option?
Not today. We're focused on making the hosted product excellent. If your concern is keeping evaluation local, our Evaluation Proxy add-on runs in your network and keeps all targeting data on-premise while syncing flag configurations from Flipswitch cloud. If it's about reliability, our Scale plan includes a 99.99% uptime SLA.
What if I need SAML SSO but I'm on Team?
SAML is an add-on, not a tier gate. When it ships, you'll be able to add it to any paid plan for $100/mo, including Team. No tier upgrade required.
Do I need the Evaluation Proxy for compliance?
It depends on your requirements. Standard Flipswitch evaluation sends targeting attributes to our API for server-side evaluation, we only use them to evaluate flags and don't store them on our platform. If your requirements still mandate that user context never leaves your network, the proxy keeps all evaluation local.
Is the free tier actually free, or is it a trial?
Actually free. No trial period, no expiration, no credit card required. Use it forever. We'd rather you outgrow Free into Team than never start at all.
What's the difference between annual and monthly billing?
Annual billing is the default and the price we advertise: Team $99/mo ($1,188/yr), Growth $199/mo ($2,388/yr), Scale $499/mo ($5,988/yr). Monthly billing is available at a premium: Team $119/mo, Growth $249/mo, Scale $599/mo. Annual plans are billed upfront for the year. Monthly plans can be cancelled at the end of any billing cycle.
